These sheep are native to the Isle of Man and can have up to six horns, though generally they have either two or four. They belong to a group of sheep called Northern Short-Tailed and were thought to have been brought here by the Vikings. The Manx Loaghtan fleece will weigh approximately 1.5kg with a staple length of 7-10cm. Close to the roots, it is dark brown, bleaching to a pale coffee shade where it has been in the sun.
